Yala's eastern sectors (Blocks III-V, reached through the quieter Katagamuwa and Galge gates) lie within reach of Monaragala district, about 1-2 hours from Monaragala or Wellawaya. Book a morning (5:30 AM) or afternoon half-day jeep with a registered operator; park fees plus jeep hire apply. Dry season May-August gives best sightings; carry sun cover and never leave the vehicle.
